Walt Disney World Wednesday: Disney Must-Do's For First Time Guests: Animal Kingdom
Happy Wednesday, friends! Today is the final installment of my Disney Must-Do's For First Time Guests! If you missed any of the previous posts in this series they will be linked at the end of this post! This week we are going to the wild side and hanging out in Animal Kingdom. Now Animal Kingdom is not my favorite of the four Walt Disney World theme parks, but I think when Pandora opens next year it will get better. They have really just struggled keeping guests there for the whole day because the night-time entertainment has never been there until this summer, and even then, The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic really wasn't spectacular like Wishes!, or Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular! My biggest tip is to do Animal Kingdom on a day that you want to spend some time at your hotel, or you have a dining reservation for breakfast or dinner at a resort. (Boma, at Animal Kingdom Lodge is awesome, and close to the park!)
When seasoned veterans think about Animal Kingdom two rides come to mind. Expedition Everest or Kilamanjaro Safari! Expedition Everest is a high-speed coaster that takes you up Mount Everest to look for the Yeti, while Kilamanjaro Safari is the closest many of us will get to an actual African safari. I would highly suggest getting a fastpass for Everest, and heading straight to the Safari first thing in the morning. The animals are the most active in the morning, and some of the best views of the savannah are in the morning hours.
If there's any show that I am going to implore that you wait in the stand-by line for at Walt Disney World, it's Festival of the Lion King at DAK! This show is filled with all of the song you're definitely going to be singing along to, the characters from The Lion King that you love, and incredible acrobatics! I'm not someone to get the "warm and fuzzy" feelings for just anything, but this show gets me every single time! It's so special, and the cast does such a great job every single time!
Remember that Dole Whip you got over at Magic Kingdom? Well they have them at Animal Kingdom, and if you're over the age of 21 you are going to love the spiked Dole Whip. It's that same deliciously tart treat, but with a major splash of rum. Talk about yum! The spiked Dole Whip can be found at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa area of the park, and is $6.50.
There's only one spot I'm going to for a quick meal in Animal Kingdom and that's the semi-new Harambe Market! This market place is housed in the Africa area of the park, and has four different kiosks with all different kinds of food! My personal favorite are the spice-rubbed ribs. It's huge, so be sure to find a buddy to share with. My mom and I both ate this and we still had leftover lunch! This meal also comes with green papaya slaw, and black-eyed pea, corn, and tomato salad.
I would suggest the newest restaurant Tiffins at Animal Kingdom here, but I haven't eaten there yet, so I cannot, in good blogging etiquette tel you how awesome it is yet. But there is another really great table service restaurant at Animal Kingdom, Yak & Yeti. The type of food is Indian and Chinese, but it's really good! But the real highlight here is dessert. They have the best cream cheese stuffed won-tons! Talk about yum! The crunchy won-ton shell, the creamy filling, and a vanilla ice cream dipping sauce makes for the perfect ending to any Animal Kingdom day.
Well friends, that it for my Disney Must Do's! If you have something different for Animal Kingdom than what's on my list let me know!
