Monday Must Haves: June 22, 2014
Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a great weekend and spent time celebrating the Dad in your life. I got to go golfing for the very first time ever with my dad and while it wasn't pretty it was fun to spend time with him in a setting that wasn't Disney or Metro Diner. Let's just say I won't be taking on Rory in the Master's anytime soon (besides the fact that women aren't allowed to play in that tournament, but that's a whole different issue). I'm really excited about this week because there's going to be a whole host of new content going up, so make sure you keep checking back in to see what's new! But for now we should get on with what's hot for this week, besides the weather here in Florida.
This Saturday my friend Wale is hosting a big game for the Jacksonville Armada against the Boca Juniors! I am so excited for Wale after seeing all of the hard work he's put into getting his name put out into the community and being recognized for the talent he has in entertaining people, but keeping it completely honest while he is hosting an event. Even if you don't like soccer, go out to Everbank Field to support my friend. You won't regret spending your Saturday night with a bunch of rowdy soccer fans.
You can follow Wale on Twitter here: @TheMCWale
As you may or may or may not know, I had the privilege of going to a Rolling Stones concert a few weeks ago! If you ever get the chance you must go! You will not regret it. This may seem like I'm going to tell you to follow The Rolling Stones or Mick Jagger on Twitter, but I'm not. I'm actually going to tell you about something that happened on my Twitter timeline over the weekend.
The band is doing a new social media marketing campaign called #StonesIsm. While the full details of the campaign have yet to be revealed, the band has asked fans to tweet their favorite Rolling Stones lyric, quote, or something of that nature with the campaign hashtag #StonesIsm. I've been seeing the band retweet many of these tweets, so I thought I would join in. I put my favorite lyric in my tweet before I went to bed, then when I woke up the next morning, the actual Rolling Stones had favorited my tweet. I basically threw my phone with excitement. I still have no idea what phase two of this campaign is, but it's sure to be good!
It's hot. Anyone can tell you that. It's how you dress for this heat that makes the difference. I texted my best friend this morning and asked for help on this section of the post because sometimes I just want to wear black all of the time and she adds some color into my life. She then came up with the best idea, "How to wear the least amount of clothing, but still be modest so you don't sweat to death."
I thought about it and figured out I would go with a skater skirt and a crop top, some sort of graphic tank top, or lace shirt. Sometimes in the heat I find dresses can cling and skater skirts never do because of how they're cut, then adding a fun loose top with it is the perfect summer look.
Right now I'm really loving light smoky eyes, so your makeup can easily transition from day to night without having to do anything else to it. For this look I like using the Lancome Color Design Palette in Gris Fatale that came with their Christmas package in 2014. It comes with 5 different colors from a light pink to a dark midnight blue-black. All of the colors in the palette are shimmery, but for summer I think a bit of shimmer is nice.
Bumble and Bumble have great products at semi-affordable prices! When I know I'm going to be blow drying or curling my hair I always reach for the Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer. I just spray this through the lengths of my hair (wet or dry) and work it in before I start to style, then I know my hair is safe from whatever heat is going to be attacking it that day. I found out about Bumble and Bumble from Lou Teasdale who has her own book, The Craft, and happens to be One Direction's hair and makeup guru, so I trust what she has to say about all things hair and makeup.
I'm now taking all of my music new suggestions from Niall Horan's Instagram. He talked about James Bay, and now I love James Bay. He talked about Kodaline, and now I love Kodaline. And now last week he posted about a song from a new band called The Academic and after listening to it I really can't wait for a full record to come out.
I think Kid President should be the actual President, but apparently children can't declare a run for Presidency. So until that day happens, here's 20 things Kid President thinks you should say more often! (Please pay special attention to number eight and follow instructions this week.)
I really don't like hotdogs, but I love cheese fries. Sometimes though, in the deep, dark, hottest days of summer I crave a hotdog with cheese and bacon, and there's only one place I'm going for that, Hazel's Hotdogs in St. Augustine. They have the best hotgogs and handcut french fries you will ever have. Everything comes out like you know if it's the last meal you ever eat, then you will die happy. They will put just about anything on a hotdog, so if you aren't a cheese and bacon kind of person there's definitely something for you. Hazel's is well worth the drive to St. Augustine!
Well that's it for this week's Monday Must Haves! If you try any of these things or have anything you think should be featured on a Monday Must Have in the next few weeks let me know in the comments. Like this post if you love when you find out what members of your favorite band are listening to during their free time.
