Monday Must Haves: June 1, 2015

Happy first Monday of June friends! I hope you all had a great weekend. There was so much going on this weekend for me that it really seemed to fly by like a blur. I'm really excited that it's June, because that means summer is officially here. I love everything that comes with summer, from beaches, to hanging out with friends, to late night ice cream runs, to just being lazy in general because some days it's way to hot to function. So this week is all about what you need for a perfect summer!

Summer is all about water sports, especially here in Florida. If we aren't at the beach, we are dreaming about being at the beach. One of my favorite things to do at the beach is to watch the surfers. While I cannot surf, and don't really plan on trying to learn, I love the athleticism it takes to surf, and being at one with the ocean. When the waves are really good at the beach you can see so many surfers out in the water early in the morning that there is barely any room for anyone else. But that's fine by me.

Social Media:

Recently, I've discovered a pretty cool new YouTuber, Taylor Christian. His videos take you on cliff diving adventures, trying random DIY projects, and other fun things. He's also really active on Twitter and Instagram, and willing to talk to just about anyone. I think that's the cool thing about Taylor, is that while his channels are still relatively small, he's willing and wanting to reach out to his fans.

Let's face it, no one actually wants to get dressed when it's hot enough outside to bake cookies on the dashboard of your car. But fear not. The best of all worlds, from the daily grind at the office, to going out with friends Friday night is the perfect black maxi dress! There is no need to have to sit like a lady in a maxi dress because they are long, they are super comfortable, and they are super versatile. I bought this one from Nordstrom and love it!

For work I would just put a colored blazer over it. Then for a night out leave the blazer in the car and put on a statement necklace and you're set to go!

Summer is the time to wear bright colors, so why shouldn't that include your makeup routine. If you're afraid of wearing a brighter lipstick, maybe go for a sheerer bright. What I'm loving for summer is orange based colors. Anything from a true orange, to an orange red. My most recent purchase in the orange-based lip color is from L'Oreal Paris. It's part of their Colour Riche collection and it's called Raspberry Rush (color number 260). It's a perfect combination of Nars Dragon Girl, Nars Yu, and Rimmel London Orange-Ology. It's a hard color to describe. It's pink, orange and red, all in one.

If you don't live near a beach (sorry, you're really missing out on that one) but still want the beach hair look, the best sea salt spray I've ever used is from Fudge Urban. The product is available at Target. I know I've talked about it before, but for the perfect beach waves there's nothing else that compares to this. I use this salt spray after I've washed my hair and dried it part-way, then spray it through the lengths to let my hair dry the rest of the way. If you have really thick hair then you can use a hair dryer to help the process along. My only tip is to not brush your hair after you've put the salt spray in it because waves won't be encouraged as much.

One morning while scrolling through my Twitter feed I noticed Niall Horan from One Direction had a Twitter chat and I missed it. I was devastated. But he did mention some new artists he loved listening too, and while I wasn't a fan of some, I've been listening to Hudson Taylor a lot, and can I just say they are phenomenal! They are a great folk-y, singer-songwriter duo (brothers) from Ireland. They've already had the incredible opportunity to open for The Rolling Stones! The brothers sound like a mix of Mumford and Sons, Switchfoot, and The 1975, yet they still sound all their own. Their debut album "Singing for Strangers" is one of the best records I've heard in the past few months.

If you're like me and don't want to waste your summer, or your life away doing something insignificant. If you have dreams of doing awesome things, like kissing the queen, buying Harry Styles a drink at The Nice Guy, or even buying someone else a new car, watch this!

Summer is all about good food. From grilling to brunch the next morning, you need good food with good friends. Some of my favorite stories to tell people come from different brunch spots I've been to in Jacksonville. Three of my favorite places are Biscotti's, Zeta, and Derby on Park. Biscotti's has the best breakfast burrito you will ever have, along with the best cheese grits in the city. Zeta has all you can drink mimosas with brunch. I think that's all I need to say about that. Then Derby on Park has just perfect everything. If I'm going to brunch these are probably the places I'm going to.

Well that's it for this week's Monday Must Haves! If you try any of these things out, or have anything you think I should know about let me know in the comments. Also, let me know what you want to cross off your bucket list this year! Like this post if you're ready for summer nights with friends.
