Monday Must Haves: April 27, 2015
Happy Monday friends! I hope you all had a great weekend! I know mine was super busy, but still rewarding and fun. This week is going to be nothing short of busy, exciting and filled with all things Disney since I'm going to the Happiest Place on Earth this weekend with my family and two best friends. Which reminds me, every post this week is going to have some sort of Disney theme running through it, including today's Monday Must Have's because it's only once a year you get to go to Disney for your birthday! (Even though you get 364 un-birthdays!) And when you go to Disney for your birthday you get text messages from your best friend like this:
This week is the NFL Draft, and I'm really excited about that. I hope the Jaguars and the Saints don't waste their first round picks. There's been a lot of talk on Twitter and Facebook about who each team is going to pick, but honestly no one really knows. And after what happened last year with the Jags picking Blake Bortles for their first pick and shocking the whole league, who knows what's going to happen.
Also going with sports, for those of you who have never been to Disney, I'm genuinely sorry. It's one of my favorite places, but it does take a toll on your body. I've read and tracked for myself that you walk, or run if you're really excited to see Cinderella, upwards of 10-12 miles a day at Disney World. That's a whole lot of exercise, even if it doesn't feel like it. So bring comfortable shoes.
Disney for any sort of trip is a big undertaking, especially with more than the people that live in your house. Everyone wants to do different rides, eat different places, meet different characters, and all around just have different experiences. This is why I think it's a good idea to have an "official hashtag" for the weekend, or however long you are staying. That way while you and your best friends are meeting Rapunzel, and your parents are off riding The Haunted Mansion and pictures are being taken, they can all be compiled again later with this hashtag. If you are wanting to follow along with my Disney weekend, the official hashtag: #Megans23
NO MATCHING SHIRTS! Under no circumstances is it okay to be that family with the bright yellow t-shirts that say "The Smith Family Reunion, 2015" with everyone's name on the back from Little Sister to Grandpa and everyone in-between. Just don't. If you are wanting to do some sort of family photo, wear similar shirts with the same color scheme, but not the same design. I would also warn against wearing these "matching shirts" every day of your trip. People will begin to recognize you.
Right now I'm loving the half up and half down hair look, with the half that's up put into a top-knot or bun. It keeps most of your hair out of your face, but it's still super cute for pictures. Sometimes I find when I'm taking pictures and I have my hair up I look like a boy. This look solves all my problems.
Makeup is another thing that I don't like to fuss around with much at Disney. While I still like to look like a normal human being and not like I just rolled out of bed, there's no way I'm going through my whole makeup routine before heading out to a park in the morning. I take basics that I can either apply with my fingers or I only have to take one or two brushes for. I also never take really high-end products in case they get lost. The one thing I make sure I never forget is mascara, because even without any other makeup this will help you look more awake after a long few days walking around the parks.
The drive that I take to Orlando to get to Disney isn't necessarily long, it's just boring, so a good road trip playlist is necessary. Mine always includes some classic 80's hits everyone knows, like Dude Looks Like a Lady, Eye of the Tiger, and Livin on a Prayer. Then there's a good mix of basically every Taylor Swift and One Direction song, with a bit of Anberlin and Little Mix added in.
This playlist always gets me in the Disney mood, especially as the week gets closer to leaving Friday!
There's so many great places to eat at when you're at Disney but one of my favorites is Raglan Road. It's the Irish pub at Downtown Disney, and it's delicious! They have the best atmosphere, with live music of people from Ireland, and traditional Irish dancers. Raglan Road also has a wide variety of food on their menu, but the real star is their appetizers! They have everything from bangers (sausage) with mustard sauce to scallops to an asparagus and goat cheese tart. They also have a great selection of Irish beer and whiskey. Raglan Road also does a really good Sunday brunch, with a traditional Irish breakfast, which is one of my favorite brunches.
Well that's it for this weeks Monday Must Haves! If you have anything you think is a good tip for going to Disney for your birthday let me know in the comments. Like this post if you're celebrating an UnBirthday this week, or you're excited about the NFL draft.
