Monday Must Haves: March 9, 2014
Happy Monday! I really hope your day didn't start out like mine did. I've already been to the dentist today, and that doesn't make for a fun Monday. There's so many exciting things happening in Jacksonville and they seem to have been all yesterday, or sometime this week.
I don't think Jacksonville has been this excited about basketball in a long time. Last night my alma mater, The University of North Florida, punched their ticket to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament to represent the Atlantic Sun Conference! The game was absolutely incredible and it's so exciting that a school that's really not known for athletics is making a huge name for themselves! I was at a Jacksonville Armada game when I found out UNF had won and there were so many people around the stadium swooping. It really made me so proud to have just graduated from such an awesome university.
Recently my best friend sent me a video on YouTube of someone I had never heard of before. I watched it, then a few more, clicked subscribe and now I can't stop watching. It's a problem guys. Lily Pebbles is a British blogger, vlogger, and all around cool person. She talks about fashion, beauty, food, and everything under the sun. Her videos are really interesting and never drag on. She always gets right to the point, which I like. But I also like that she's willing to show her flaws and put a couple of bloopers in her videos.
Right now I'm loving t-strap flats. They are a great way to add a little bit of edge to any outfit, but still office-appropriate. The shoes are also easily convertible from day to night, and have so many styling options. I love ones that come in a fun print, or have some sort of embellishment. I think the best way to wear these shoes, especially the leopard print ones would be with a pair of black skinny jeans and a royal blue shirt, or a black dress.
Hair is hard sometimes. Sometimes you just don't want to do anything to it and it doesn't want to cooperate. On days like that I love putting my hair in a braided top-knot. It's easy, keeps everything contained, and my hair doesn't have to be bothered the rest of the day. The best product for long, thick hair, to keep it all in place is Fudge Urban Surfer Wax. I just melt a little bit of the wax and work it into the mid-lengths to ends of my hair and braid my hair. Then I wrap the braid around itself and the wax hardens and nothing moves the rest of the day.
Spring has sprung in Florida, so that means I have to pull out all of the bright colored nail polishes! Which I love because there's nothing better than seeing an old favorite pink or turquoise that you haven't worn since summer. I love the Butter London nail polishes. They stay on forever and don't chip easily. They come in a huge range of colors, and they all are beautiful. In fact, I'm about to paint my nails "pinkies up" which is a pale shimmery pink! Perfect for the first part of spring.
There's nothing better than an old song coming on and remembering all of the words. I must admit that my obsession with boy bands started when I was very young. Proper school-yard fights would break out about who was better, Backstreet Boys or N*Sync, which we all know the answer is Backstreet Boys!
This. Just this. This little girl is going to be the next Beyonce.
Maple Street Biscuit Company is one of the best breakfast and lunch places in Jacksonville. They make biscuit sandwiches with all sorts of things on them, from eggs and bacon, to chicken and goat cheese, to sausage gravy. They also have some of the best mac and cheese in the city! I love this place because every time you go they don't use your name to call out your order like Starbucks does, but there is a question that you have to answer, like "Who is your favorite cartoon character?" or "Whats your favorite movie?" and that's your food indicator. I also love that the tables are meant to be community tables, which makes for easy and fun ways of meeting new people.
Well that's it for this week's Monday Must Haves! If you try any of these things or have something or somewhere you think I should feature, let me know. Like this post if you think boy band- mania will never die, and tell me which band is your favorite!
