Monday Must-Haves: December 8, 2014
Did anyone else wake up singing "For The First Time In Forever" from Frozen? No? Just me then. Well it's graduation week and I think that song pretty much sums up graduation week. The window is open! So’s that door! I didn’t know they did that anymore!
There’ll be actual real live people It’ll be totally strange But wow! Am I so ready for this change.
Pretty much after every late night of studying ever in college!
Cause for the first time in forever There’ll be music, there’ll be light! For the first time in forever I’ll be dancing through the night…
And this, because after you take public relations campaigns and it is the literal death of you, and your team wins the client for class and the stress of the semester comes to a close, this verse is so true.
Anyways... I don't think any of you care about my crazy Disney obsession. It's Monday and that means it's time for another Monday Must-Haves. I couldn't let this week go by without making this graduation themed. Even if you aren't graduating this semester, or for a couple of semesters it's going to be fun! And just a quick note, instead of a social media follow this week, I am posting about food because when you graduate everyone wants to take you out for a meal of your choice, so pick wisely!
So your friends want to take you to brunch, and you have three sets of friends who don't know each other all wanting brunch, one set of grandparents wants to take you to breakfast, and the other wants to take you to dinner, and Aunt Linda and Uncle George want to take you for dessert (they know about your chocolate cake obsession). What are you going to do? Well the best thing I've done with all of these invites is take them all up on it! Graduation is important and while it may be stressful trying to plan out all of these meals with different people, the time you spend with them will be well worth it.
In Jacksonville, some great brunch spots are Zeta Brewing in Jacksonville Beach, Pele's Woodfire in Riverside, and Maple Street Biscuit Company. As for breakfast there is no other option than Metro Diner! Dinner is really a preference thing but Mango Mango's in St. Augustine is absolutely delicious. About that chocolate cake, Brio Tuscan Grille has the best!
So graduation is happening and you have to wear one of those funny hats with the tassel that you're going to be playing with throughout the whole ceremony. Basically you are going to be channeling Taylor Swift's cat Olivia Benson with that tassel. You're hair really needs to be flawless for all the pictures you're going to take, but still graduation cap appropriate. That really limits what you can do with your hair, including those really awesome braided top-knots. I'm thinking something with loose curls if you're hair lets you do that sort of thing, if not just add lots of Fudge Urban Sea Salt Spray to add some texture but still look effortless.
As if I need to tell you, graduation is going to be full of tears and kisses and so many emotion that a good waterproof mascara is going to be worth the investment! But other than that, I've been loving a red lip lately. Being a young twenty-something and trying new things is what graduation is about right? They teach you as much as they can and let you go to make your own path. Well I'm loving the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the color 250 Standout. It's a bright red that's classic. The actual balm goes on super smooth and stays on forever, even through meals.
Add a black cat-eye and people might mistake you for Taylor Swift, and ask you to sing Blank Space.
While everyone is wearing those garbage bag shaped graduation gowns, it's what you wear underneath that matters. If you've been around for very long you know my go to color for any occasion is black. This is the dress I got to wear under my gown, because even though it's winter, those gowns are hot and I want to be comfortable. I love the Lauren Conrad dress because the top is all lace, and the bottom is tulle. It's very girly, but I can easily make it more rocker and my style with some leggings and some short black ankle boots! There's nothing I love more than wearing all black to make me feel like I can conquer the world, and in a sense I did.
Graduation requires great music!! You all already know I love me some One Direction and Taylor Swift, but what you may not know is I love 80's rock! (Thanks Dad) I really think that the best way to get ready for the day is by listening to ACDC, KISS, Kansas, Whitesnake, Aerosmith... the list goes on forever. I love that almost everyone knows some of those classic songs. Driving to graduation just believe me when I say make a playlist of those songs and everyone will be singing a long and having a great time!
So that's it for this week's Monday Must-Haves! Congratulations if you are graduating this semester. If you try out any of these things or have something else that yo are doing let me know.
Currently listening too: "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake
